Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has stressed that no timeline or diplomatic deadline has ever persuaded Russia to halt its aggression. He argued that if Moscow is unwilling to stop the war decisive action to bring its economy to a standstill.
In his evening address on August 10, Zelensky declared:
“We fully understand the scale of the threat, and so do all of our partners. Yet Russia has taken no genuine step—on the ground or in the air—that could save lives.”
Russia’s Sole Objective: The Destruction of Ukraine
According to Zelensky, the Kremlin’s only goal is to annihilate Ukraine, not to seek peace. Achieving real peace, he said, will require a united global effort:
“What we need is strength—the strength of the United States, the strength of Europe, and the combined strength of every nation that values peace and stability in international relations. If Russia will not end its war, then we must end its economy.”
Zaporizhzhia Under Fire and the Call for Sanctions
The recent Russian strike on Zaporizhzhia, along with attacks on other frontline cities and towns, demonstrates that Moscow has no interest in pursuing peace, Zelensky said. He insisted that sustained sanctions are the only viable response to Russia’s ongoing assaults.
A Flurry of Diplomacy
The Ukrainian president revealed that he has held a series of intensive phone talks with European leaders. These conversations focused on forging a united strategy to halt Russian aggression and secure lasting peace. Zelensky emphasized that Europe must speak with “a single, unwavering voice” in the peace process.
Working in Sync with the United States
Zelensky also confirmed that Ukraine and its partners are closely coordinating positions with Washington, welcoming the U.S.’s determination to help end the war. He warned that Russia is deliberately trying to drag out the conflict to seize more territory and stressed the need for a smart, coordinated response.
Deadlines Ignored by the Kremlin
While a deadline has already been set for Russia to agree to a ceasefire, Zelensky said the Kremlin shows no sign of complying. “There is strong support, even under new conditions, yet we see Russia remains indifferent,” he noted.
In recent days, strikes, carried out aerial bombardments, and stepped up assaults along the front.
Open to Peace—Under Clear Conditions
Zelensky reiterated that Ukraine remains ready for peace, but not at the expense of its sovereignty. “We are prepared for peace, but not for a peace that allows the aggressor to continue its attacks,” he concluded.
